Coconut Range
In our blissful tropical country Sri Lanka, we call the tree of coconut as “කප්රුක”. Meaning the heavenly tree which gives everything we want. From the root to the leaves, from the fruit to the shell, the coconut is filled with enrichment and life. Ancient Sri Lankan chronicles indicate that coconuts have been in existence in the coastal regions of Sri Lanka (Ceylon) before the birth of Christ. The Sri Lankan Coconut Triangle, located between Kurunegala, Puttalam, and Negombo, offers the most suitable soil and climatic conditions for more richer texture and yield of coconuts.
Benefits of using coconuts
- Highly nutritious - Unlike many other fruits that are high in carbs, coconuts provide mostly fat. They also contain protein, several important minerals, and small amounts of B vitamins.
- Antibacterial effects - Though more research involving humans is needed, some studies have found that coconut oil could help block the growth of certain bacteria strains.
- May promote blood sugar control - Coconuts are low in carbs and high in fiber and fat, which may be beneficial for blood sugar control.
- Contains powerful antioxidants - Coconut meat contains phenolic compounds, which are antioxidants that can help protect cells from oxidative damage.
- Easy to add to your diet - Flaked or shaved, coconut adds a nice flavor to savory dishes. Its meaty texture and flavor work well in curries, fish stews, rice dishes, or even on breaded shrimp.
